Primary Research Group has published the Survey of Academic Library Leadership: Materials Storage Practices, ISBN 978-1-57440-619-1
This study presents data from a survey of 80 academic library directors, deans and other high-level officials about their library policies on materials storage. The study helps its readers to answer questions such as: how many and what kinds of libraries are seeking additional storage space? What solutions have they been using and plan to use? How many use off-campus storage? Or develop cooperative warehousing with other colleges? Or share space on campus with other departments? In general, how satisfied are librarians with their current storage situation?
Just a few of the report’s many findings are that:
-
21.25% of survey respondents were very satisfied with their current storage practices.
-
30% of colleges with between 1,300 and 3,100 student enrolment FTE shared storage spaces with other departments on campus.
-
Only 2.38% of private colleges in the sample participated in a storage consortium with other colleges.
Data in the 42-page report is broken out by size and type of institution, by tuition level, for public and private institutions and by other useful variables.
