More than of deans, provosts, chancellors, trustees and other top administrators from a sample of major research universities awarded their university advancement and fundraising effort a grade of “A’, according to a survey of more than 300 university deans, department chairman, chancellors, trustees, provosts administrative department heads and other university leaders drawn from a sample of 60+ major research universities predominantly in the USA but also from Canada, the UK and Australia. Data isnthe report is broken out by many criteria including university ranking, enrollment size, and public private status as well as by personal criteria of the respondents such as academic title, departmental affiliation, gender, rate of compensation, age and other variables.
University leaders describe what they like and dislike about their university fundraising efforts, what would make them become more involved and whether or not the university should spend more or less, or about the same as current spending on advancement. Survey participants also grade their institution’s advancement effort and offer their counsel and impressions. They also discuss the extent to which they feel that their departments are included in the distribution of funds and the fundamental fairness of this process.
Just a few of the report’s many findings are that:
The more highly ranked the university, the greater the likelihood that its advancement efforts received a coveted A with enormous differences between the highest and lowest ranked universities.
More than 41% of those sampled earning more than $250,000 (US) per year wanted to increase spending on advancement.
