The 89-page study gives highly detailed data about corporate and other business library use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google Photos, Flickr, Google Images, Pinterest, Vimeo and other sites. The study focuses particularly on use of images and video, looking closely at how image and video librarianship have impacted the work of corporate and other business libraries.
The report highlights the extent of use of each of the sites listed above, and how important each site is to the librarians queried.
Just a few of the report’s many findings are that:
92% of University/ MBA libraries sampled used YouTube in their work, followed by 70% of corporate libraries and 67% of public business libraries.
Corporate libraries sampled use Google Photos a mean of 1.6 hours in a month; University/ MBA libraries spend about 0.72 hours in a month on it while public business libraries do not show any usage.
The average number of videos made by staff librarians in the sample the past year was 8.44 while it was 1.33 videos for library Director/Managers
Two thirds of libraries with 3 or fewer employees very rarely include videos in search results for patron search requests
The data in the report is based on a survey of 27 corporate and other business libraries drawn from major corporations, law firms, consultancies, MBA programs, and public business libraries. Data is broken out separately by size of library staff, for library directors and staff librarians and for MBA and other university business libraries, corporate libraries and public business libraries.
