This study of business and economics faculty looks at perceptions of discrimination of various kinds -- age, gender, sexual orientation, class origins, ethnicity, religion and degree of religiosity, geographic origins, and race. The report gives highly detailed data about the extent to which academics in MBA programs and other economics and business faculties from major English-speaking countries believe that their fields are impacted by these various kinds of discrimination. The survey data is based on a survey of more than 180 scholars drawn from more than 100 major research universities and MBA programs in the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. Data is broken out by various criteria, such as type of university, MBA program or Grad/Undergrad business or economics program, scholar’s country, gender, political views, academic subject specialty, academic title and other criteria. The report also looks at the incidence of experience of sexual harassment.
Just a few of the 81-page report’s many findings are that:
-
11.05% of business/economics faculty surveyed say that they have experienced sexual harassment from their current employer.
-
The perception of bias on the basis of religion is strongest in Australia (11.76%) and the U.S. (4.96%), but not cited at all in Canada or the UK/Ireland.
-
Younger individuals are more likely to perceive bias than older ones to perceive bias due to sexual orientation, with the highest perception levels among those under age 30 (10.00%).
