Press Release | Primary Research Group
Primary Research Group Inc. has published the Survey of Undergraduates: Interest in International Business, Logistics, Trade & Transportation, ISBN 978-1-57440-536-1

This 51-page study presents data from 1,566 undergraduates at 4-year colleges in the United States, assessing their level of interest in coursework and careers in international business, as well as in Logistics, Trade & Transportation.  The study enables its end users to focus in on precisely the kind of student most interested in these study and work areas.  Data is presented separately for international business, and for logistics/trade/transport; in addition, a data set on overall interest in business studies is provided as a basis for comparison.

We asked:” How interested are you in taking courses in business and finance at the undergraduate level?  We gave five possible answers to this multiple choice question: Not at all interested         A little interested            Somewhat interested           Interested      Very Interested.  We asked the same question about general business studies and then about logistics, trade & transport – yielding an extensive data set about the kinds of individuals most interested in these study and work areas.

The extensive data in the report is broken out by 18 variables including age, gender, academic major or intended major, income level, sexual orientation, race & ethnicity, college grades, ACT/SAT scores, level of personal religiosity, regional origins, public/private college status, college Carnegie class and many other variables.

Just a few of the report’s many findings are that:

  • Interest in international business studies was great from those who grew up in cities with more than 350,000 inhabitants; in this cohort, nearly twice the interest level of those who grew up in rural areas or smaller cities.
  • By race and ethnicity, it was Black and Asian students with the highest levels of interest in general business studies, nearly 27% of both groups were either interested or very interested.
  • Interest in logistics, trade and transport peaked in the 23-30 year old age group among those currently at 4-year colleges.
